Covid 19: A guide to microsites as online spending continues to rise

Covid 19 has drastically impacted our society and everyday life as we know it. Along with us changing various habits, businesses and non-profit organisations have also been among those who have had to adapt quickly. Pre-Covid it was forecasted that online spending would increase by 30% between 2019 and 2024 (Retail, 20191). However, lockdown has given this a massive boost. According to Global Data2(2020) 43% of UK shoppers spent more online during lockdown than usual and 61% of those shoppers plan to keep spending more online after the pandemic. Therefore, is your company trading online? If not, then now is a great time to change whilst the demand is growing.

One way to increase your online engagement with your customers is to create a promotional microsite alongside your website. Which brings us onto a major question which we frequently get asked: what is a microsite and how can it help with growing our business?

“A microsite is a website with a particular purpose. It is a small and highly focused segment of online content that targets a specific audience”

A promotional microsite will support a single campaign and therefore is likely to be used for a short period of time.

A major benefit of a microsite is increased awareness not only to the specific campaign but also to your brand. Microsites typically provide a call to action to allow your customer to engage with your brand and allow data to be captured either for a prize draw entry, to fulfil a reward or to submit a cashback claim. By separating the promotional marketing mechanic away from your main brand website, either via a promotional domain or by using a sub domain, this allows your customers to have a clearer customer journey as they focus on the subject rather than all the information on your main brand website.

Other benefits also include extra SEO advantage, our ability to be responsive to your tactical requirements to turn a campaign round within a short period rather than relying on your own IT department, as well as being cost effective.
