Space - The Final Frontier

These are the voyages of the Starship MRM.  Its mission: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new clients and new client solutions. To boldly go where no promotional marketing company has gone before!

Britain is fast running out of storage space.  Business Insiders article from April this year states that shelves could quickly empty in British stores in the event of a no-deal Brexit on October 31, due to a shortage of warehousing in the run-up to Christmas and with retailers planning to stockpile goods in the run up to the United Kingdom's scheduled exit from the European Union on Halloween.  However, many of the warehouses used to stockpile goods are now no longer available, as they have already been booked for storing the large quantities of stock needed for Christmas. Retailers and manufacturers are rushing to find space to store stockpiled inventory and The UK Warehousing Association says many of its members are operating at full capacity.  As a result, it has been reported that storage costs have soared by up to 25 per cent in the past three months.

In addition to this, with the booming e-commerce sector and the ever changing world of retail, the logistics and warehousing industry’s ability to provide flexible warehousing has become ever more important. In fact, warehousing is evolving as you read this, and is now becoming a more ‘on-demand’ service with some companies using it short term, and others for the longer term.  Some just want warehouse space and others want fulfilment services too.

E-commerce shows no signs of slowing and, currently, the consumer shows no signs of easing off on demand, but for suppliers and retailers it’s all about meeting that demand in the best way they can to meet customer expectations, whilst still being profitable.  The picture is clear. Warehousing, in all its many forms, is here to stay, and is growing as a solution to the alternative business practises emerging, with even larger companies moving away from high street and out of town retailing.

In December last year, MRM expanded the warehouse capacity, offering an additional 25,000 sq ft of space, in order to be able to facilitate our client’s needs and in anticipation of future warehousing and storage shortages across the UK. This has given us an increased storage and operational capacity, as well as providing overflow storage for those clients finding themselves short of warehouse space within their own sites.
